By continually increasing his knowledge of advances in the field of dental implants, Orland Park doctor Gadia Peabody is able to provide his patients with the most qualified dental care. At his Orland Square Cosmetic & Dental Implant Center, Dr. Peabody offers a range of modern procedures to help every patient achieve a beautiful, healthy smile. For patients interested in a natural-looking and permanent procedure to replace missing teeth, dental implants and implant restorations are practical options.
Dental implants are considered a conservative option compared to traditional bridges because the implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support; however, because placing the posts is a surgical procedure, it is important to carefully select a qualified dentist. If you are missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease, or decay, dental implants from our Chicago-area practice may be the right decision for you.
Dental Implant Process
Below is a detailed outline of how dental implants are put in by Chicago dentist Gadia Peabody. It describes how a single dental implant is completed; multiple implants would follow a similar format.
- Initial Consultation
- Evaluate patient’s medical condition
- Evaluate patient’s oral condition
- Discuss patient’s expectations
- Dental implant procedure explained

- Diagnostics
- X-rays
- Impressions taken for diagnostic work-up
- Discuss treatment options with patient
- Stage 1 Surgery
- Dental implant surgically placed using diagnostic records
- The tissue is stitched together covering the implant
- Post-op instructions and medication

- Stage 2 Surgery
- After four to six months of healing, the implant is uncovered
- Healing caps are placed over the dental implants to allow the gums to heal
- Impression
- Impressions are taken of the implant to start the crown fabrication
- This will take place about three weeks after Stage 2 Surgery
- Try-in
- The post (abutment) will come back from the lab to be tried in for fit
- If it fits properly in the patient’s mouth, then the crown will be fit onto the post
- Shade selection taken to match the color of the adjacent teeth
- The healing cap placed back on the implant
- The post is sent back to the lab for crown fabrication

- Delivery
- The post is put back in the patient’s mouth
- The crown is tried in for fit on the post, and color match
- Crown is cemented on the post
- Bite is checked

Once all these steps are complete, your new dental implants are ready to admire, use, and enjoy! To learn more about implant dentistry and how dental implants can improve the quality of your life, contact the Orland Park office of Gadia Peabody, serving Chicago.
Tooth Replacement
Dental implants are titanium posts that are securely anchored to the patient’s jawbone. They serve as a substitute for the roots of the missing teeth and they also help reduce further bone loss, thereby protecting the patient’s remaining teeth. After the bone around the implant heals, the implant restoration can occur. Restorations are artificial teeth that are positioned onto the posts. The results of implant dentistry appear very natural. In addition, the patient's chewing ability is increased, and speech and appearance are improved.

Implant-Supported Dentures
Fixed dental implants are the most effective option for replacing a single tooth or several adjacent teeth. For a single tooth, a natural-looking crown is permanently attached to the implant post, while a bridge can be used to restore the look and function of several missing teeth.
Removable dental implants are an excellent implant dentistry option for Chicago and Orland Park residents who normally rely on conventional dentures as a replacement for all of their natural teeth. The dentures can be fitted with metal clasps that attach to the implant posts, supporting the denture for a much more stable fit but also allowing it to be removed for cleaning.
Advantages of Implant Dentures Over Conventional Dentures
- Greater stability
- More comfortable
- Better strength when eating
- Biting and chewing capacity functions more like natural teeth
- Looks more like natural teeth
- No annoying plastic covering the roof of the mouth
- No unattractive clasps or hooks
- The jawbone is preserved with the integrated implants
- Speak easier and more clearly
- Long lasting

“I have had countless crowns, root canals done, and
even re-root canals done on my poor teeth over the
years. Needless to say I have seen many dentists too.
When a tooth implant was the next step in my dental
history, I saw Dr. Peabody. My anxiety over this
new procedure was needless because Dr. Peabody has
the gentlest touch I have ever experienced!!! I can
truly say it was a "piece of cake" and did not even
need any pain medication afterwards. Dr. Peabody is a
PRINCE of dentists. I highly recommend his
personalized and virtually painless procedures.”
